James completed his undergraduate Bachelor of Science in organic chemistry and biochemistry at the Australian National University (ANU) in 2019. During his undergraduate studies he completed a 6-month research intensive project under the supervision of Professor Mark Humphrey in the Australia-China Joint Research Centre for Functional Molecular Materials, synthesizing ruthenium- and ferrocenyl- appended molecular wires.

In 2020, James furthered his studies in organic chemistry, undertaking an honours project with Professor Michelle Coote, focussed on achieving Sonogashira-comparable carbon-carbon couplings utilizing copper as opposed to relying on expensive and heavy metals such as palladium. Whilst completing honours James also began a full-time Masters of Intellectual Property at the University of Technology, Sydney.

James joined Alder IP in 2021 as a Trainee Patent Attorney, where he continues to work toward obtaining a registration as a Trans-Tasman Patent Attorney. James’ interests include organometallic inventions, organic chemistry, biochemistry, flow-chemistry and its integration and application into industry. James also has a keen interest in the commercialization of ideas, trade mark prosecution and patent protection of all inventions.
